Nazier Elahee was just walking down the street when he saw a man and 11-year-old girl crossing the bridge. The man had the girl by the wrist and she did not look happy—at first glance it looked like a parent and child having a row.
But then as they crossed paths, Elahee noticed the girl mouthing something without saying it out loud: “Help me.”
Elahee is just an ordinary guy, but he knew his next actions would have big consequences and he was willing to take a risk.
He stopped in front of the two and took the girl away from the suspect right away. He asked the girl if she knew this man, and she answered “No.”
“When she said no I was like, what’s going on? I asked the gentleman if he knew her and he said ‘no I’m taking her home,’” Elahee told Fox19.
He immediately called the police, and the 37-year-old man ran for it, trying to escape before he could be apprehended.
Elahee wasn’t going to let him go so easily—what if he tried to hurt someone else?
He chased the man all the way down to a nearby grocery store in Golf Manor, Ohio, and kept him there until the police arrived.
The whole thing was captured on a security camera, and police have released the tapes. The man was identified as Jessie Woodard and charged with kidnapping and arrested on the spot.
Elahee has been hailed a hero.
“If he had gotten that little girl to wherever he was going to she could have been raped… killed,” he said. “If I could have done something else I would have, but the right thing to do was to call the police and keep the girl safe.”
